Everest High Valleys and Lakes Trek

Overview

This trek visits two high valleys of the Khumbu, offers magnificent views from Kala Pattar and Gokyo Ri, and the peaceful setting of Gokyo lakes together with all the aspects of our two other Everest treks.

A superb mountain flight with views over the Langtang and Rolwaling Himals and the terraced mid hills of the Solu Khumbu brings you to Lukla to start this trek that will take you into the heart of the Khumbu, the Sherpa homeland.

The trail takes us to the first high valley the same route as our other Everest treks, and visits Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery and Dingboche where acclimatisation/rest days allow the exploration of villages and side valleys. From our camp at Loboche we trek to Gorak Shep and Kala Pattar (5545m).

From Loboche we make our way down the Imja Khola to Phortse and then join with the Dudh Khosi valley up to Gokyo. With three nights at Gokyo time is available to explore the area around the lakes and to climb Gokyo Ri (5483m) for more superb views, this time of Cho-Oyu as well as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and many more.

Leaving Gokyo our descent keeps us on the west side of the valley through Machhermo and Phortse Tenga to Khumjung and Khunde and on to Namche. This outstanding trek ends with a second opportunity to experience the spectacular mountain flight to Kathmandu.

As usual with treks in the Khumbu several days are allowed for bad weather preventing flights from Lukla, and these will give you the opportunity to explore Kathmandu and the valley area
