July 2005 - Crafts and Projects

We are now able to offer a selection of quality handmade Nepalese crafts and textile items for sale. Our colleagues from a small number of organizations, cooperatives and family run businesses produce these in Nepal. Included is the rehabilitation unit of a leprosy hospital operating under Fair Trade in Nepal. Others are socially aware and benefiting their employees and their families in the local community.

There is a range of textiles from bed covers and curtains, cushion covers, tablecloths, napkins etc. to wallets, bags and purses. Pashmina shawls and scarves and a selection of handmade silver Jewellery is also available. A range of organically grown Nepal tea will be available as well as Nepali spices.

Products are purchased at a fair price under Fair Trade in Nepal benefiting directly the organizations and individuals who make each item. In addition some of the profits will assist the projects that we organize and support to assist the Sherpa people in Nepal.

A small catalogue is available for our Nepalese Crafts and Textiles. Some of these have been distributed but if you would like to receive one please contact us any time. For those with email a PDF file is available, perhaps even more convenient, just send us an email.

Nepal Trekking continues to support some of the local NGOs in Kathmandu together with Khunde Hospital and the Monasteries at Tengboche and also our home village of Pangum in the Khumbu Everest region. Our education project is ongoing as well as others to provide clothing for Sherpa children in our own village and others in the Khumbu region.

The education system in Nepal is coming under increasing pressure from many directions. It continues to be a major concern to get children, particularly in the villages, to attend school and to receive a reasonable education. If you feel able to help with any of our projects, or you would like more information, please contact us at any time.

By booking your trek or tour with us you are giving employment to our Sherpa staff and others in Nepal. You would be contributing direct to the Nepalese economy at this difficult time for the people of Nepal.

Taking part in a trek or tour, or buying something from our catalogue, you will be helping people in Nepal directly. Thank you from all associated with Nepal Trekking.

Once again we must give our thanks from all at Nepal Trekking to our clients and to all those who donate clothing and supply various medical items which we distribute amongst the Sherpa community. With a percentage of all client fees being used for our various projects we are extremely grateful for the support of clients and we look forward to being able to continue with our plans for the future.

If you would like a brochure or further information for our treks and tours please contact us, we look forward to meeting old and new friends in 2005.

Namaste Greetings to all our friends from Denis and all the Nepal Trekking team
